On May 4, two Kuki women were subjected to brutal horror which jolted the nation. The incident shocked the nation. The Supreme Court albeit a few hours later when the video surfaced took suo moto cognisance of the act. It intervened and directed the state government to investigate the matter. Meanwhile violence which started early May, caused 140+ fatalities and thousands displaced. Hundreds of deaths and destruction is still unaccounted.

As Isaac Asimov wisely said, “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.” This quote underscores the futility and inefficacy of resorting to violence as a means to resolve conflicts. The quote reminds us that violence perpetuates suffering, division, and pain in Manipur’s sexual violence and ethnic conflict. The brutal incident of parading women naked is a grim testament to the tragic consequences of allowing violence to prevail over dialogue and understanding.

The trouble started with State Govt. approving Scheduled Tribe status to the Metei and ignoring the Kukis.
