The government of Rajasthan has proclaimed April 11 as a public holiday in honour of social reformer Jyotiba Phule's birthdate. This results in the state having 20 alternative holidays in addition to the 30 public holidays. Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jayanti has up to now been an optional holiday in the state. A proposal in this direction has reportedly been approved by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, according to an official announcement.
