Former Delhi Deputy Chief Manish Sisodia was detained earlier this year by the CBI in connection with suspected irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the state’s now-cancelled excise policy. Manish Sisodia, a former deputy chief minister of Delhi, is certain to stay behind bars after the Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday denied his request for bail, according to news agency ANI.
In connection with alleged irregularities in the formulation and application of the state’s now-scrapped excise policy, the senior AAP leader had been detained by the CBI earlier this year. The order will be issued by Rouse Avenue Courts’ special judge MK Nagpal at 4 p.m. on April 26. On Monday, a Delhi court changed its ruling on the former deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody by the ED and CBI in the liquor scam case.
In the CBI case and the ED case, the court has now prolonged Sisodia’s judicial detention until April 27 and April 29, respectively. In both the CBI and ED cases, the court has previously extended Sisodia’s custody until May 1. The court also took note of ED counsel’s statements that the organisation intends to submit a chargesheet (prosecution complaint) before the end of this month.
While the ED is looking into the money laundering aspect of the case involving the abandoned excise policy, the CBI is looking into allegations of corruption. The excise department, which Manish Sisodia oversaw, is charged with anomalies during the development and implementation of a new liquor policy that reportedly gave some merchants an advantage.
