On Saturday, Rahul Gandhi took a bicycle ride to Ladakh’s Pangong Lake, where a prayer session was held on the banks of the lake to commemorate the birth anniversary of ex-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. On the occasion of his father Rajiv Gandhi’s 79th birthday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took out a bike ride on Saturday to Ladakh’s Pangong lake to pay homage to him. Rahul Gandhi paid homage to his former Prime Minister father Rajiv Gandhi on the occasion of his 79th birthday. Rahul Gandhi began his day with a prayer meeting at Pangong lake in Ladakh to mark Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Rajiv was born on the 20th of August, 1944. He was the 7th prime minister of India between 1984 and 1989. Congress leaders and workers of the party will celebrate the birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in the nation’s capital on August 20. On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi landed in the Union Territory of Leh for the start of his 2-day tour of the country. Later, he extended his visit to the country till August 25.

This is the first time he has visited Ladakh since the Union Territory of Ladakh and the State of J&K were separated from each other following the repeal of Article 370 and Article 35(A) on 5 August 2019. He interacted with young people in Leh on Friday. Congress party sources have informed that Rahul Gandhi will also attend a football match in the city of Leh. Rahul Gandhi is known to have been a football enthusiast during his college years. Additionally, sources have revealed that Rahul Gandhi will attend the 30-member meeting of the LAHDC-Kargil election on August 25.

The Congress and National Conference had formed an alliance against the BJP in the run-up to Kargil Council election scheduled for September 10. Though the Congress MP had made two visits to Jammu and one to Srinagar in the previous year, he did not visit Ladakh. The Congress leader had visited Jammu & Srinagar in January as part of his Bharat Yodo Yatra, and again in February for a personal visit to the ski resort in Gulmarg.
