The Delhi Police made the submission in response to the court’s earlier direction for the police to present a status report before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to look into the claims of sexual harassment made by female wrestlers against WFI president Brij Bhushan Singh, the Delhi Police informed a special court here on Friday. The argument was presented in front of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal in response to a previous ruling from the court ordering the police to submit a status report.
“Considering the seriousness of the case we have formed a SIT. The SIT will be investigating the case,” public prosecutor Atul Srivastava told the court, stating that a status report has been filed in the matter. Given the nature of the case, he asked that no one else be given access to the report. The report was submitted in a sealed cover by the Delhi Police. Following the submission, the court set a new hearing date on May 27.
On a petition filed by the wrestlers asking for oversight of the inquiry and recording of the statements of the claimed victims before the court, the judge had given notice to the Delhi Police. The wrestlers have been calling for Singh’s arrest, claiming that he has sexually abused multiple female competitors, including a kid. The BJP MP is the target of two FIRs from the Delhi Police, one of which is under section 10 of the POCSO Act and has been cleared of all allegations.
