UNESCO Gave Cultural Heritage Status To Durga Puja, People Of Bengal Congratulated Modi

The world famous Durga Puja of Bengal has been given the status of cultural heritage by UNESCO. The Cultural Unit of the United Nations (UNESCO) on Wednesday announced the inclusion of Durga Puja in Bengal in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. On behalf of India, UNESCO had demanded to give heritage status to Durga Puja. It has been approved by UNESCO. Durga Puja will now be recognized globally.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed happiness over this announcement of UNESCO and congratulated the people of the country and Bengal for this. On the other hand, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that it is a proud moment for every Bengali. Durga Puja is more than worship for us. It’s a feeling for us. At the same time, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy has congratulated all the countrymen including West Bengal for this. He said that the cultural heritage of West Bengal has got a new identity. The glimpse of Durga Puja will now spread across the world.

According to information received from the ministry, during the 16th session of the Intergovernmental Committee being held in Paris from December 13 to 18, Durga Puja has been included in UNESCO’s representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It has been particularly praised for its all-inclusive approach, crossing barriers of religion, gender and economic class. Actually, during Durga Puja, the capital of Bengal, starting from the center of Kolkata, is built with pomp from east to west and from north to south.

Cultural heritage is not just a collection of signs and objects, it also includes the traditions and sentiments of our ancestors, which are passed on to the generations to come.
