Rohini Acharya Yadav is a remarkable figure whose journey from a dedicated medical professional to a political aspirant and public voice reflects courage, conviction, and service. Born on 1 June 1979 in Patna into the influential family of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi—two former Chief Ministers of Bihar—Rohini has seven sisters and two brothers, including prominent politicians Tej Pratap and Tejashwi Yadav.
Rohini earned her MBBS from MGM Medical College in Jamshedpur but chose not to pursue medical practice full-time. In 2002, still a student, she married Samaresh Singh—an IT professional whose father, Rai Ranvijay Singh, is a retired Income Tax officer and long-standing friend of Lalu Prasad Yadav. The couple lived in Singapore and the U.S. for two decades and have three children: two sons (Arihant, Aditya) and a daughter (Ayanna).
Rohini won national praise in December 2022 when she donated one of her kidneys to her ailing father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was undergoing treatment in Singapore for chronic renal issues. She described the donation as “just a small chunk of flesh” meant to save his life, a gesture that earned widespread emotional acclaim, especially as a powerful remedy to son-preference biases in Indian society.

With a strong familial legacy in politics, it was perhaps predictable that Rohini would eventually enter public life. In early 2024, speculation about her contesting from the Saran Lok Sabha constituency grew, especially after an RJD leader and social media activity suggested party support.
She officially kicked off her campaign with roadshows and temple visits across Saran in April 2024. Her nomination form, filed alongside her parents and siblings, revealed assets worth ₹15.82 crore, with her husband’s holdings at ₹19.86 crore.
Despite her pedigree and strong campaign, she lost the seat to BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy in the 2024 polls.

Living in Singapore, Rohini has been vocal on social media, often steering bold political commentary. Notably, she derided BJP as a “washing machine”—alleging it absolves its own of corruption—as well as making sharp remarks at political leaders like Nitish Kumar, although some posts were later removed.
In May 2025, she publicly supported her father’s decision to expel brother Tej Pratap from the RJD, calling Lalu Prasad “like God” and emphasizing the values of discipline and dignity within the family and party.
