“Last time, you all voted for Sunny Deol. Did he ever come here? He never came, so what was the benefit? We all thought that he was a big actor, and if we vote for him, he will do something. These big people are not going to do anything. Give your vote to ‘Aam Aadmi’, they will at least come to your use.”

Earlier this year, Sunny Deol declared he is not “cut out for politics” and that he has no intention of running for office again. Deol had said the following in an interview with Aaj Tak: “I don’t want to contest elections anymore. I will remain an actor and continue to serve the country like I have always done. I sincerely believe that what I can give to the youth of this country is by being a good actor and bringing out good projects.”

Sunny Deol, a Lok Sabha MP from Gurdaspur, did not attend the House for a single day during the monsoon session of this year’s parliament. According to The Tribune, BJP MP Deol has previously reported missing several sessions of parliament. He had four sessions with zero attendance and a total of 19% attendance up until 2019, the year he was elected as a Member of Parliament.

Sunny Deol seemed to be limited in his participation in the farm legislation demonstrations led by Punjabi farmers to sharing positive remarks on social media endorsing the Center’s position. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Deol defeated Sunil Jakhar, who was running on a Congress ticket, by a margin of 82,459 votes.
