The fact that a majority of party MLAs have voted against Sachin Pilot’s candidacy to succeed Ashok Gehlot as chief minister in 2020 has brought up bitter memories of Sachin Pilot’s previous attempt at leading a successful rebellion. It does not appear, either then or now, that Pilot possesses the support of a sufficient number of MLAs to mount a credible challenge to Gehlot’s leadership. Even the top leadership of the Congress, which had appeared to back him previously, is now in an embarrassing situation as a result of the resignation of the MLAs.
Pilot has exhausted all of their available options. If his supporters remained loyal to him after his resignation, it would bring down the administration and achieve very little in the short term. The Congress is no longer in a position to win back federal power; hence, staying in the party means embracing the disgrace of having wasted a promising political future in Rajasthan state politics.
Since the Congress is no longer in a position to win back federal power, Given the track record of voters in Rajasthan tossing out incumbents, waiting until the election the following year could not assist his chances. In addition, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) would be pleased with the arrival of a prominent OBC leader who would make it more difficult for the opposition Congress party in Rajasthan to maintain its social alliance.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the member of the Gandhi family who has the least amount of influence, despite the fact that Pilot is very close with her. It is troublesome in states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab where the Congress party is still competitive and has many powerful satraps since there is no central authority in these states.
Players such as Pilot, DK Shivakumar, and TS Singh Deo could have occupied prominent positions in the game’s history at one time or another. Because this safety net does not exist, there is a good chance that Pilot will soon have no further options available to him inside the Congress if Rajasthan MLAs maintain their hostile attitude toward him.
