External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is on a visit to Saudi Arabia, explains why India is a strong contender to be a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. He enumerated many reasons behind this contender-ship of India. He said that India has always been in the forefront of fulfilling its objectives of maintaining international security, as well as taking appropriate steps for the global situation.
He said India has a strong contender-ship for being a permanent member of the Security Council as India is the largest democracy, fifth largest economy, nuclear energy, big technological hub, and the most important thing that India has a tradition of global engagement. S Jaishankar said the Saudi Gazette newspaper in an interview that the council must adapt to evolving global conditions, not only to fulfill its objectives of maintaining international security, but also it remains relevant.
S Jaishankar Addressed NRIs:
Let us inform you that S Jaishankar also addressed the NRIs in Riyadh yesterday. During this, Jaishankar had said that due to the Ukraine crisis, oil prices have increased worldwide and as a result the inflation has increased, but despite all this condition, the Indian economy is growing rapidly. Jaishankar also highlighted that India has made most powerful efforts toward developing its economy and making it a high-income country. He also said that India thinks of ways in which it can change its credit, banking, education, and labor policy.
He said that there have been many major reforms and we can see the results also. He also said, “In the last financial year, we have exported the highest ever. Our total exports stood at US$ 670 billion. Goods worth US$ 400 billion were traded”. He also stressed that the idea of India as a trading power has become credible today.
Jaishankar’s first Saudi visit:
S Jaishankar went Saudi Arabia on Saturday on a three-day visit to discuss ways to further strengthen ties between the two countries. Let us tell you this is his first visit to Saudi Arabia as Foreign Minister. He met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and handed over a written message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and apprised him of the progress in bilateral relations.
