Gunjan ChaudharyJuly 15, 20220

A bench of the Supreme Court on Friday gave a big message to the careless people, citing the example of school children. In fact, Justices U U Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhatt and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia reached the court early on Friday and their bench started hearing the cases from 9.30 am. During this, Justice U U Lalit, remarking that if children can go to school at 7 in the morning, then why can’t lawyers start their work at 9 in the morning. Significantly, Justice Lalit is at the top of the order of seniority to become the next Chief Justice of India.

Justice Lalit said, ‘According to me, we should ideally sit down (for work) from 9 am. I have always said that if children can go to school at seven in the morning, why can’t we come at nine in the morning.’ After the hearing was over, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi lauded the bench for sitting for the hearing ahead of time. After which Justice Lalit made this remark. He said that the relatively opportune time to start the work of the courts is 9.30 am.

Justice Lalit said that if the courts start early in the morning, the work will also end early and judges will get extra time to read the next day’s cases. He said that ‘courts can start working at nine in the morning and finish the day’s work by 2 pm with a break of one hour at 11.30 am. By doing this, the judges will get more time than before to work in the evening.

Significantly, the current Chief Justice of India NV Ramana will retire on 26 August. He will be followed by Justice Lalit, who will hold the post till November 8 this year.
