Davos Agenda 2022: PM Modi Introduces ‘P3 Movement’ For Climate Change Commitments

Sonia SolankiJanuary 19, 20220

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underlined India’s climate change commitments while addressing the Davos agenda 2022. He introduced the P3 movement which refers to Pro-Planet People.

During the address, PM Modi focused on the present culture of ‘make-use-throw’ which deepens the climate problems globally.

“‘Throw away’ culture and consumerism have deepened the climate challenge. It is imperative to rapidly move from today’s ‘take-make-use-dispose’ economy to a circular economy”, he said.

PM Modi also pointed the new policies which India is building upon is for the next 25 years with respect to the environment.

“In this period, India has set the goals of high growth, a saturation of welfare and wellness. This period of growth will also be green, it will also be clean, it will also be sustainable, it will also be reliable. Continuing the tradition of making big commitments and living up to them for the global good, we have also set a target of net-zero by 2070,” the Prime Minister stated.

This year, the World Economic Forum (WEF) Davos Virtual Summit Agenda is about Climate action, Pandemic recovery and socio-economic resilience.

P3 Movement At Davos Agenda 2022

Prime Minister Modi said our lifestyle is our biggest drawback for the climate. At present, the world is working in a ‘take-make-use-throw’ loop which is harmful to our climate. We need to move away from this pattern so that we can enter a more circular economy that gives back to the environment. PM also discussed the importance of the LIFE idea Mission of COP26.

“Today’s “take-make-use-dispose”, which in this economy, it is very important to rapidly move it towards a circular economy. This is the spirit at the core of the mission LIFE idea I discussed at COP26. LIFE – i.e. Lifestyle for Environment, the vision of such a Resilient and Sustainable Lifestyle which will be useful in dealing with Climate Crisis as well as future Unpredictable Challenge. Therefore, it is important for Mission LIFE to become a global mass movement. We can make a campaign of public participation like LIFE, P-3, and when I say P-3, also make a big basis for “Pro Planet People,” he said.

He focused on the new policies which India is looking forward to making a sustainable environment. At present India has a roadmap for the next 25 years in order to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2070. India also updated the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) by 2030. Under the initiative, India will be increasing its renewable capacity to 500 GW.

In August 2021, the Union ministry of new and renewable energy announced that India has achieved the 100GW mark of renewable energy capacity.

Conclusion :

Climate protection is a global issue and needs to be a continuous matter of discussion by world leaders. Millions of lives are lost every year due to air, water and land pollution. This is a reflection of the misuse of natural resources across the globe.
