Delhi has received first prototype of 100% electric DTC bus. Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has achieved this feat after a significant long wait. As per the reports, the delivery of buses was scheduled to start from November 2021. But due to the ongoing pandemic and other underlying reasons, it got delayed.
Currently, DTC buses are CNG operated, which produce a smaller number of emissions as compared to diesel operated heavy vehicles. These e-buses will surely have a positive outlook on the Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. The plan, in much larger aspect, is to get 3,500 electric buses running on the roads.
E-buses will not only have positive impact on environment, but also some of the DTC buses were getting old enough. However, it is not sure that older CNG buses will get fully replaced by these electric buses or not.
Delhi Transport minister Kailash Gahlot took to twitter to express his excitement. “Congrats Delhi! After a long wait, prototype of DTC’s first 100 per cent electric bus has reached Delhi! CM Arvind Kejriwal will soon flag off this electric bus,” he tweeted on Sunday.
Delhi and other states are choosing battery operated vehicles amid the rising pollution levels. Many companies like Hyundai, Tata Motors, MG Motor have also started to manufacture affordable EV. Amidst all this, DTC has laid approvals for 1,015 low-floor air-conditioned buses that would be electrically powered.
The poor air quality is due to a number of reasons combined together. Out of all vehicular emissions is also responsible for the same. With the introduction of electric buses in the city, the emissions will surely go down, hence improving the air quality and curbing pollution.
