India-Vietnam: Foreign Minister Meets The President Of The National Assembly, Presents A Historic Picture Of Ho Chi Minh

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar presented a photograph of former Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh at Sapru House in 1958 to Vuong Dinh Hue, Speaker of the Vietnam National Assembly, on the occasion of the celebration of the 5th anniversary of the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. As part of the celebrations, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar along with the Speaker of the Vietnam National Assembly, Vuong Dinh Hue participated in the photo exhibition.

During this, the External Affairs Minister said that next year we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of India-Vietnam diplomatic relations. For India, Vietnam is a major partner in both ASEAN and the Indo-Pacific.

He said that our business has crossed the $10 billion mark in 2020. Under the Mekong-Ganga Cooperation, India is implementing a number of projects in 33 provinces of Vietnam that are benefitting the local community and helping Vietnam reach its Sustainable Development Goals.

At the same time, the Ministry of External Affairs informed that Tajik Foreign Minister Siroziddin Muhariddin arrived in New Delhi for an official visit and to attend the third meeting of the India-Central Asia Dialogue.

Om Birla expressed his satisfaction that from political exchanges to the fields of defence, trade, commerce and culture, bilateral relations have emerged to high extent with Vietnam. Om Birla also expressed his happiness by remembering the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Vietnam in 2016 and the virtual summit between the Prime Ministers of the two countries in December 2020. He further added that these steps has given a new direction to India-Vietnam relations. He further added that today Vietnam is an important pillar of India’s Act East policy and a key partner for the Indo-Pacific goals. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also expressed his satisfaction that Indian investors are present in Vietnam, who are making commendable contributions in various fields.

He also stressed over the fact that India wants to strengthen India-Vietnam Parliamentary Diplomacy and for that purpose, the Indian Parliament is forming an India-Vietnam Friendship Group so that representatives of both the Parliaments could give a completely new dimension to the Parliamentary relations of both the countries.
