Sayani ChakrabortySeptember 12, 20230

Over and over again, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked our country, especially its youth, to commit to ushering in a new period called 'Amrit Kaal,' with the lofty aim of transforming India into a developed country within the next quarter century. India is one of the world's largest and oldest democracies, and its rich human resources and substantial economic strength make it a country whose citizens all share a common desire to see it flourish into a modern, prosperous superpower. These natural advantages, along with strongly ingrained beliefs and values, create a robust basis for driving the country to the forefront of progress and innovation. It is vitally important that as we set out on this journey, the distinctive Indian culture and identity be protected and fostered. In ...

The opposition party is an essential balance in democratic politics. They conduct a symphony of checks and balances and alternative viewpoints. This crucial part should not be overlooked. It should be celebrated for the essential role it plays in the development and stability of a political environment. Unheralded yet crucial to the health of a democracy, the opposition party maintains the system of checks and balances. This unwavering watchdog constantly monitors the government's doings. They cast doubt on its policies and condemning its judgements. By carefully examining legislative ideas, investigating executive activities, and uncovering any violations of the law, the opposition checks the ruling party's authority and helps keep the delicate balance of democracy in place. Karnataka’s BJP Government Overhauls State’s Reservation Policy For First Time Since 1994

Sayani ChakrabortyApril 7, 20230

On Friday, the BJP government in Karnataka made significant changes to the state's reservation policy, altering its contours for the first time since 1994. Two politically influential populations, the Vokkaligas and Lingayats, had their sub-quotas increased by two percentage points each. Muslims were thus eliminated from the OBC category. With a two-point rise to 17%, the scheduled caste quota was broken into four more groups. With the EWS quota, the proposed modifications will boost the total reservation to 66%. Legally, it is not yet complete. Chief Minister Bommai of Karnataka has announced that the administration will urge that the Indian government place the state's reservation policy under the Constitution's ninth schedule. These changes occur shortly prior to the upcoming ass...

Disturbances in North East India Continues As People Suffer From Discrimination

Sayani ChakrabortyApril 6, 20230

Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland have seen a significant decrease in the number of "disturbed areas," and a review of the designation in 2023 will be an incremental step toward removing the label and making it irrelevant. This will allow the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (Afspa), a lawless law that allows the armed forces and central police to search and arrest without warrant and shoot on suspicion for "maintaining public order," to be put into effect. One district in Nagaland was no longer classified as a "disturbed area" this year. Eight of Nagaland's sixteen districts (including Dimapur) are now fully subject to Afspa, while a further five are subject to it in some form. Tripura repealed Afspa in 2015, and Meghalaya removed it in 2018 after 27 years. Both of these states recently ...

The Potential Turning Moment of Rahul Gandhi’s Disqualification

Sayani ChakrabortyMarch 30, 20230

In Indian politics, a new era has begun. When the ruling party seizes control of the Republic's institutions, as has happened in India recently, the opposition must resort to more clandestine strategies. To better connect with the people, Rahul Gandhi first immersed himself in Parliament and then set out on a Bharat Jodo Yatra. The governing government felt they had to eliminate him as a threat. It's the beginning of a brand new series. When the institutions of the Republic are taken by the governing party, as is the case in India at the moment, the opposition is left with few options for bringing about change. First, Rahul Gandhi put his money where his mouth is, in parliament, where he denounced attacks on democracy and the nexus between the Modi government and new oligarchs. Howe...

Himachal Pradesh Updates: Congress Stages Protest In Shimla Against Rahul Gandhi’s Disqualification From Lok Sabha: Checkout Deets!

SHIVANI UJJAINWALMarch 27, 20230

Rahul Gandhi, the previous party leader, was disqualified from serving in the Lok Sabha, and the Congress Party in Shimla, led by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, staged a "Sankalp Satyagraha" protest there. Rahul Gandhi can be stopped in parliament, but not in public, according to Chief Minister Sukhu, who attacked the union government.  “People and political parties did not face the situation that has arisen today in the country due to bad and anti-people / policies of the Union government. Rahul Gandhi is the voice of democracy and the party is the biggest political party. You can suppress his voice in the parliament but you can’t suppress him in the people’s court. He does not do politics for MP or for the seat of Prime Minister. Democracy is under threat

Politics And Heterosexuality: Government Still Lags Behind When It Comes to Gender Issues

Sayani ChakrabortyMarch 21, 20230

Politicians will not challenge the norms of a mostly heterosexual culture just because some people want to live together. Hence, civil unions could be a decent starting point for same-sex couples. The Government of India has expressed its opposition to same-sex marriage to the Supreme Court, stating that such unions are not in keeping with the traditional Indian family and that 'obviously separate' groups should not be regarded the same. The executive and legislative branches' perspectives on this matter are heavily influenced by the conservative and traditionalist nature of most of Indian society. Nonetheless, it is the responsibility of the Supreme Court to protect basic liberties, regardless of public opinion. The Center for Justice and Inclusion (CJI) has made the encouraging ob...

Rajnath Singh Says “Rahul Gandhi Tried To Defame India In London” The MP Should Apologise As BJP Scales Up Attack: Deets Inside!

SHIVANI UJJAINWALMarch 13, 20230

Rajnath Singh, the deputy leader of the Lok Sabha and minister for defence, claimed that Rahul Gandhi wanted foreign interference in the domestic affairs of the nation, which needed to be categorically rejected. Several prominent BJP lawmakers, including Government Ministers Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, and Giriraj Singh, criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday for recent comments he made in London that claimed there were threats to Indian democracy. They pushed for the Wayanad MP to apologise in front of Parliament. Also, they urged the House speaker to take action against him. "Rahul Gandhi, who is a member of this House, insulted India in London. I demand that his statements should be condemned by all members of this House and he should be asked to apologise before the

From Hindenburg Report To Stock Rout: A Critical Analysis Of Adani Catastrophe

Sayani ChakrabortyMarch 8, 20230

The enormous fluctuations in the market value and fortunes of the Adani Group are almost unreal, like something out of a fairy tale. Since a short seller agency, Hindenburg Research, made serious accusations regarding the use of widespread illegalities by the group, I believe history will view this as a singular event, at least for India, due to the magnitude and speed with which the changes occurred, both during the spectacular ascent and the subsequent decline. Adani's route to success began in 1999, when it joined with Singapore's Wilmar to become an importer of palm oil. In a short amount of time, seven corporations affiliated with the Adani group accumulated control of practically all of India's infrastructure, including seaports, highways, airports, data storage facilities, defe...

Decreased Private Demand Slows Economic Growth, Suggesting Policy Changes

Sayani ChakrabortyMarch 7, 20230

In line with RBI's projection but below the mainstream opinion of experts, GDP for the third quarter (October-December) of 2022-23 was Rs 40.19 lakh crore, up by 4.4%. Even if GDP revisions for the prior quarter and fiscal year are ignored, data from the third quarter still offers alarming signals about the rate at which the economy is losing steam. In the face of rising interest rates, the positive effects of a return to normalcy in the economy have had a chilling effect on private consumption. In addition, against the backdrop of a worldwide economic recession, manufacturing has decreased for the second consecutive quarter. In the third quarter, private consumption spending increased by 2.1% to Rs 24.77 lakh crore. When compared to the prior quarter (July-September), this one saw ...
