G20 Bali Summit: India’s Prominence And Other Developments

The G20 Bali Summit held from 15 to 16th November 2022 was the seventeenth meeting of the Group of Twenty, which was convened in Nusa Dua, Bali. Indonesia presided over the summit this year which was handed over by the Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi to Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the end of the previous Rome summit. Several agendas and developments were discussed including climate change, Ukraine War, monetary policies, etc. The summit also saw several levels of bilateral meetings held between the participating nations. External Minister S. Jaishankar gave an extensive speech on India's Vision of the Indo-Pacific at the Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. India and Thailand are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations. Mentioning this Jaishankar highlighted that India is very much inclined towards the East. He also emphasized that New Delhi now looks beyond the Indian Ocean and into the Pacific. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit will be held on September 15-16, 2022 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar visited Tashkent on a two-day pre-SCO summit conclave. PM Modi will attend the summit in September.
