In A First, Kerala Now Has A State-Specific Disaster; Know What Changed About Man-Animal Conflict

Snehashish RoyMarch 9, 20240

Kerala, a state in southern India, has recently declared man-animal conflict as a state-specific disaster, becoming the first state in the country to do so. This decision is significant as it changes the way the government is addressing the issue of managing man-animal conflicts. Currently, the responsibility of managing man-animal conflict rests with the forest department, which acts as per the Wild Life Protection Act. However, once the issue is declared a state-specific disaster, the responsibility to deal with it shifts to the state disaster management authority. This authority, powered by the Disaster Management Act, can take quicker and more decisive action in managing the conflict. The disaster management authority is headed by the Chief Minister at the state level, and se...

No Support, Shashi Tharoor Still ‘Outsider’ For Congress In Kerala: Deets Inside!!!

SHIVANI UJJAINWALNovember 21, 20220

Shashi Tharoor has also irked a sizable contingent of state leaders. If the suggestions from the party about his possibilities if he runs for the AICC president seat are any indication, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor, a former diplomat-turned-politician, still remains an "outsider" within the Kerala branch of the Congress. While the majority of Congressmen preferred to criticise Tharoor in private, senior Congressman K Muraleedharan, who has been travelling with Rahul Gandhi around the padayatra, told TNIE that only the official candidate would receive the support of the state's leadership. “Tharoor has neither sought the support of the state Congress leadership nor held any talks with the stakeholders here. This reveals the lack of support he has from the state unit,” said Mu

On Monday, the Congress Party's Bharat Jodo Yatra will make a stop at Pattom at about 11 am and resume at 5 pm in order to get to Kazhakuttom, where the day's travel would come to an end. On Sunday, Kerala saw a sizable attendance for the Congress party's Bharat Jodo Yatra. A large crowd gathered to watch the "padayatra" led by Rahul Gandhi, the state's MP from Wayanad, as it was lined up on both sides of the street. He had stated that Kerala respects everyone and does not allow for division or the growth of hatred and that the Bharat Jodo Yatra was sort of an extension of these beliefs as the yatra came to a conclusion here in Nemom. "Standing together, working together in harmony is natural and normal for the people of Kerala and you have shown this to the rest of the count

Snehashish RoyJune 15, 20220

West Bengal government on June 13 passed a bill that replaced the Governor with the chief minister as the chancellor of the state-run universities. The move is seen in line with other Opposition-led states that curtailed the Centre's authority. However, the bill is yet to become a law which will need Governor Dhankar's sign.  Governor's powers on state-run universities as chancellor Governors, as chancellors, in most states have the power to officially dismiss a decision by the universities' decision-making bodies and to recruit vice-chancellors.
