Only 52% Children With HIV Receive Life-Saving Treatment Globally: WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO), along with other global partners including UNAIDS and UNICEF, announced on Tuesday that only half (52%) of children with HIV are on life-saving treatment worldwide. According to the UNAIDS Global AIDS Update 2022 released recently, this figure among children lags behind that of adults where three quarters (76%) are taking antiretrovirals. WHO said, "Concerned by the stalling of progress for children, and the widening gap between children and adults, UNAIDS, UNICEF, WHO and partners have brought together a global alliance to ensure that no child living with HIV is denied treatment by the end of the decade and to prevent new infant HIV infections." Most teenagers start with cannabis before moving to opiates and pharmaceuticals. the explanation is the easy availability of prescribed drugs. Sharing needles is driving new infections within the northeastern states. Drug injectors account for 1.7% of India’s HIV infections up from 0.9 to 2 years ago. With Punjab and western provinces emerging because of the new epicentres of injecting drugs these numbers are expected to rise in India. HIV Awarness Increased In Country: Central Government

Awareness has increased a bit, but the deficit remains quite a bit. Nearly 30% of parents in the country do not want their child to attend classes with an HIV-infected student. Similarly, at least 35% of men and women object to buying goods from an HIV-infected grain seller. As far as awareness is concerned, only 30% of men in the country know about the disease in detail. The situation in West Bengal is even worse. The survey said, "Only 15%of men in the state have complete knowledge about HIV. The women of Bengal have more information about the disease than the men of this state."
