A magisterial court convicted and sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in prison for his "Modi surname" statement. Recently, the Surat Sessions Court extended Rahul Gandhi's bail on Monday and set his upcoming hearing for April 13 in relation to a criminal defamation charge from 2019. In his most recent petition, Gandhi asked the court to reject the magistrate's finding that convicted him of defamation, as well as to temporarily suspend his conviction until the matter is settled. The Congress leader was found guilty and given a two-year prison sentence in the case on Thursday (23 March), but the court later approved bail for him.
