Agnipath Row: Drastic Protest By Youth Farmers, Traders Takes Dramatic Turn

On a day when registrations under the controversial Agnipath scheme began for at least one branch of the country's armed forces, farmers, joined by workers, took to the streets in several states to press for the withdrawal of the Centre's new armed forces recruitment policy. At the call of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), demonstrations were held at block, village and district levels in many parts of the country on Friday. The call to protest was also supported by 10 Central Trade Unions. The farmers' organisation, which had earlier spearheaded the nationwide movement that repealed the three contentious farm legislation last year, said that the new scheme is part of a "wider campaign" of the Narendra Modi – led Central government to "establish company rule over agriculture." Agnipath Agitation: What Is Causing Angst Among Youth Over New Armed Forces Recruitment Scheme?

Union government has recently rolled out the Agnipath scheme to recruit soldiers in the Armed forces for the duration of four years. The recruitment drives will be organised for youth aged between 17.5 to 21 years directly from their educational institutions. The scheme has, however, failed to make a mark among youth aspirants and they have been registering their protests. They have turned violent in some places across the country, especially in Bihar. Many are believing the scheme aims to curtail the financial benefit, including the pension system.  The BSP chief Mayawati had earlier said in a tweet that the "uneasiness spread among the youth regarding the new recruitment system in the army is causing anxiety" amid rising inflation, unemployment and poverty. Adultery Law In Armed Forces Should Be Gender Neutral, Women Demand Equal Rights

It has been two years since adultery was struck off from the IPC as one of the lists of offences in the armed forces in September 2018. However, on Monday, the Ministry of defense pleaded to the Supreme Court to retain the criminality of adultery, which is, ‘stealing the affection of brother officer’s wife’,  in the armed forces. Earlier, those found guilty of adultery were subjected to punishment that could be as high as being cashiered from service aka dismissal. This was just a little shy from one of the worst offences in the army, i.e., cowardice. But just getting retention on this law enough to bring justice in the armed community?
