Free Fire Ban: Singaporean Company Faces Indian Wrath For Having Chinese Connections

Monomita NagFebruary 21, 20220

After banning 54 Chinese apps on the grounds of national security, India is now punishing a Singaporean Company, Sea group, making it lose 16 billion in a single day. Free Fire, one of the most profitable titles for the group, was banned, thus indicating New Delhi's sweeping change in its policy against anything Chinese. This of course is the first such action by India against Singapore. Reasons To Target Sea Group The management of the company was taken aback by this action which put it to face an unprecedented loss. New Delhi targeted Chinese companies but Sea Group is not Chinese. Its founder was no doubt born in China but he is not a Chinese citizen, on the contrary, he is a citizen of Singapore and the comoany is listed on New York Stock Exchange. Floating Schools: Bangladesh’s Unique Concept In River-Based Community

Monomita NagFebruary 21, 20220

During Monsoon, incessant rain creates extreme flooding almost throughout Bangladesh, making it impossible for the children to go to school for a significant part of the year. However, the country has overcome this perpetual problem of disruption in education by providing schooling in floating boats. It has proved increasingly effective in providing education to vulnerable children. This unique service is being offered by a non-profit organization known as Shidulai Swanirvar Sanstha, which has 56 solar-powered boats which are used for schooling purposes. In a country where the rainy season makes the roads impassable, floods the villages and disturbs education for months, these floating schools have provided education to more than 70,000 children since 2002. How Did It Start? M...

AAP Hits Ground For Poll Battle: Can Arvind Kejriwal Emerge As BJP Alternative Nationally?

Monomita NagFebruary 21, 20220

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's AAP is in a poll battle in three states Punjab, Uttarkhand and Goa. Hence, this is perhaps his biggest effort to spread the footprints of his party in a couple of states. Can people see it as an alternative to BJP at the national level in future? There has been an abysmal fall of Congress and it has become a fringe player in almost all the states except a very few. As long as it is unable to bring to fore a popular and acceptable leader, it will continue to shrink further. Hence, Kejriwal can fill the vacuum if he can notch a success in the 2022 elections and he will be able to establish himself as a significant political force in the country. His success will give the message that the Opposition to BJP is a  young, agile leader. He is already ...

Mamata And Nephew Fall-Out May Create Setback For TMC In National Expansion

Monomita NagFebruary 21, 20220

There is a growing rift between Mamata Banerjee, the CM of West Bengal and her anointed successor and number 2 in the party hierarchy, her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. Her displeasure was quite clear when she made a very important statement at the airport while leaving for Lucknow that she would not go to Goa to campaign for the election, as somebody was already doing that. This harmless word 'somebody' indicated that everything in Goa now has to be handled by Abhishek independently, and she had withdrawn herself from there completely.  But it is well known that TMC is running a high decibel poll campaign there as a part of its national expansion programme. It is understood that, of late, her nephew opposed certain decisions of Mamata and also tried to chalk out a new plan for the p...

Russia-China Closeness Amid Ukraine Crisis Becomes Cause Of Worry For India

Monomita NagFebruary 21, 20220

The Ukraine crisis has brought Russia close to China. A parallel situation came into being between Russia and Ukraine on one hand and China and Taiwan on the other. The possible Russian invasion of Ukraine is a distinct possibility with an aim of installing a pro-Russian govt in Kyiv. At the same time, China is also threatening to invade and annex Taiwan in the near future as the country considers it a renegade province. Against this background, the joint statement by Putin and XI during a summit on February 4 needs to be studied critically. It signals clearly that Sino-Russian relation makes no secret of their 'core interest' and therefore it is on the threshold of a deeper security alignment. What is unprecedented about the language and the cooperation of the statement is that ...
