Monomita NagJanuary 25, 20220

A fiery political drama is unfurling in Andhra Pradesh after the opposition TDP charged Kodali Venkateswara Rao, a high profile minister in the state government. The civil supply and consumer affairs minister was accused of operating a 'casino' for a week during the Sankranti festival at a convention centre owned by him. A video clip has gone viral showing a person dealing cards at a table at the centre. The convention centre is situated at Gudivada in Krishna district which incidentally is Kodali's home turf. However, state chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has distanced his government from this controversy. Monomita NagJanuary 25, 20220

Tripura will go to poll in 2023, but the political scenario is undergoing a dramatic change. The state is witnessing unprecedented violence between the ruling BJP and the state's new entrant TMC. Interestingly, the political observers are seeing an unfolding of tit for tat political game in the state between the two rivals. In West Bengal, BJP, who tried to whack TMC faced extreme violence and atrocity. Whereas, TMC, which is challenging the ruling BJP in  Tripura, is facing a similar backlash allegedly by the ruling party. BJP vs TMC CPM's 25 years reign ended in 2018 when BJP captured 36 seats out of 60 and formed the government. TMC tried back then but flunked to open an account. However, after the spectacular win in the election last May in West Bengal, it turned its attenti...

Monomita NagJanuary 15, 20220

Cooperatives in Maharashtra have emerged as the cause of corruption and electoral irregularities. These cooperatives in the states' rural economy are controlled by political parties, thereby regulating the voting pattern of the villagers. But very recently Amit Shah, Union Home, and Cooperation Minister declared that the Centre is going to introduce a new cooperative policy soon. This has unnerved the political leaders who are in control of these cooperatives. The  NCP, Congress stalwarts controlling such cooperatives are brazenly shaping the states' cooperative movement and also ensuring their win in the election by means of arm twisting the poor villagers. Politics Over Capitals In Andhra Pradesh, Deets Inside

Monomita NagDecember 27, 20210

People of Andhra Pradesh are divided over the location of state's capital conundrum. Confrontation between RIF (Royalaseema Intellectual Forum)  and APS-JAC (Amravati Parirakshana Samithi - Joint Action Committee) is brewing over the demand for setting up three capitals as planned by the Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy against the demand for a sole capital at - Amravati, a brain child of Chandrababu Naidu an arch rival of the present CM. WHY ARE PEOPLE DIVIDED RIF members backed by YSRC govt are supporting the govt move of setting up three capital opposed to a single capital at Amravati. They justify govt's Initiative for  decentralised development. They argue that in case of three capitals  three different regions of the state can be developed instead of only one. As the RIF suppo...

SinshaNovember 27, 20210

Magdalena Andersson, the first female Prime Minister of Sweden resigned on the first day of her job. She won the parliamentary approval to take on the role on Wednesday. But when her coalition partner Green Party quit their two- party coalition government and her budget failed to pass, she decided to quit. After electing the Prime Minister, the centre party withdrew its support for Andersson’s budget because, concessions were given to the ‘Left’ in the budget. And thus the parliament was unable to pass the budget proposal due to insufficient votes. The parliament later adopted a substitute budget presented by the opposition conservative moderates.  But the leader of Green Party couldn’t cope up with the opposition’s  “historic and far right” Budget . Thus they quit the govern...

Ranging from irate, to sad, to downright funny there was an entire range of emotions and outbursts on full and unrestrained display. Somewhere in the midst of all that internet and soc...

Is India’s Congress Party In A State Of Self-Destruct?

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 11, 20210

In Punjab, where innocent Indians were massacred by British colonial control at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar has just undergone a major refurbishment. Jallianwala Bagh has been "Disneyified" by the BJP administration, according to Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi, and only a person who does not understand the meaning of sacrifice can inflict such an insult on the victims. These states, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, have been in the headlines recently because of infighting among their ranks. Bhupesh Baghel, the vibrant chief minister of Chhattisgarh, led his followers to New Delhi in a show of strength to wipe out any threat to his position from his party opponent T.S. Deo last month, much to the displeasure of the Congress Party high command. It was anticipated that the party...

The Missing Voice Of Youth In Politics

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 11, 20210

India is home to over 1.3 billion people. One-fifth of the population, or 19.1 percent, is under the age of 25, the highest proportion in the world. But still the voice of youth is missing. However, just 6 percent of India's leaders and ministers are under 35, making them ineligible to be referred to as "young leaders." This is even though 65 percent of its population is under the age of 35. Only 12 percent of the current Lok Sabha is comprised of persons under the age of 35. The lack of excitement, vigor, and energy in the political arena is causing an alarming number of people to abandon their political positions. One could question why our country's youthful population has such a low representation in politics, given that they are doing amazing things in other aspects of their life ...
