Recently, Congress has demanded a prescription on the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ after the film’s teaser flared controversies. The teaser, released lately in November, contended that around 32,000 women from Kerala were transformed, most of whom were shifted to Islamic State-controlled areas in Afghanistan and Syria.
In the middle of the controversy, Kerala DGP questioned the Thiruvananthapuram commissioner to file a lawsuit against the movie team for purportedly representing the state as a secure shelter for terrorists. Responding to the teaser, Congress chief and head of the opposition in the Kerala Assembly, VD Satheesan, stated that the movie disseminates false information and must be prohibited.
“I have seen that teaser. It’s a clear case of misinformation. There is nothing like that happening in Kerala. This is to tarnish the image of Kerala in front of other states. This is spreading hatred, so it should be banned. In normal scenarios, we are against banning films, but these types of misinformation will lead to communal issues,” he stated.
“There is no record with state police. If there is anything with central intelligence, they have to bring the public. These are the records, these are the list of women, these are the addresses of the women who joined IS, they were recruited from Kerala,” he remarked further.
The teaser of the film stars Adah Sharma, who tells her story. She desired to become a nurse. However, she was kidnapped from her home and is currently imprisoned in Afghanistan as an IS terrorist.
