The European Union (EU) countries decided to impose the world’s first CO2 emissions tariff on imports of polluting goods. Starting from 2020, the EU had introduced greenhouse gas emissions costs on imports of steel, cement, fertilizers, aluminium and electricity. The finer details of the plan aren't yet finalized, which can be figured out in future negotiations. The aim of imposing this tariff is to shield the EU industry because the European market is flooded by cheaper goods made in countries with weak environmental rules. IMF To Start Talks With Sri Lanka

The IMF intends to begin discussions with Sri Lanka on a program to support the country. Spokesman Gerry Rice said the island was facing heavy currency depreciation and inflation after an unusual battle of printing money to keep interest rates low.   President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said in a national address on Wednesday that he has permitted the IMF program to go ahead after meeting senior staff of the lender in Colombo. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) once again made announcements regarding the regulatory framework on microfinance loans. RBI has done away with the margin caps on the pricing of small loans given by non-banking financial company-microfinance institutions (NBFC-MFIs).
