Arpita SarkarMay 8, 20220

Towards the end of the UPA era, the BJP called Manmohan Singh a "weak prime minister". It was said that if Narendra Modi comes to power, the center will continue with the 'strong' policy. According to political sources, it is easy to talk of 'fifty-six inches' in domestic propaganda. But sitting in government and facing economic and geopolitical challenges is another matter. That fact seems to have come to the fore in bilateral meetings of Indian leaders with heads of state and ministers from Britain, Denmark and Italy in the last two weeks. No effective decision or announcement was made on the return of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, Kim Davy, who was involved in the Purulia shootings, and the Marines who shot dead two Kerala fishermen in Indian waters, but no meeting was held after thos...

How Corruption Has Weakened, Damaged Local Governing Bodies

Pooja YadavMay 6, 20220

Corruption could be a long-standing social issue persistent in India. From reportedly 51% of respondents from a survey admitted to paying bribes, to large industries like telecommunications and coal showing signs of corruption, for the economic benefits of citizens or corporations, corrupt practices are used. All the way back to post-independence India in 1951, the Industries Act required all operations to receive a license from the govt, which limited investments from foreign countries likewise as stifling competition, and ultimately led to bribery in politics being ubiquitous. While the Anticorruption Bureau of India was created in 1961 for the only purpose of fighting corruption, it still persists all throughout the country well into the 21st century. While there are many s...

Women Don’t Get Similar Education As Men In Bihar: Why State’s Education System Failed To Serve Its Purpose?

Pooja YadavMay 6, 20220

In Bihar, education seems to be improving. The literacy rate has gone up from 47% to 61.8% in keeping with the 2001 and 2011 censuses, an enormous improvement from what it had been before. There are now fewer dropouts. There are more institutions for pedagogy. However, while there's a rise, a problem is often found when examined deeply. Women aren't getting the identical quality education that men are in Bihar. While the rise in literacy is sweet, there's a divide between men and girls. In Bihar, 71.20% of men are literate whereas only 51.5% of ladies are literate. there's a 20% margin between the 2 genders and this brings questions regarding the education system in Bihar and its equality, especially because Bihar is near the underside when it involves female literacy rates. W...

Arpita SarkarMay 6, 20220

As Maoist activity increased in neighbouring states, including West Bengal, bomb squads were formed at four branches of the Eastern Railway for the safety of railway passengers. Allegedly, Eastern Railway dismantled the bomb squad in 2020 without the permission of the Railway Board. 65 trained workers working in those four branches were transferred. As a result of not using it for a long time, valuable equipment for identifying and deactivating bombs worth Rs. 20 crore is wasted. Due to the recent rise in Maoist activities in the neighbouring state, the Railway Board has written a letter to the state asking for the cancellation of all transfer orders and was also instructed to form a bomb squad again. After that, the officials of Eastern Railway started working. Param Shiv,...
