This Is Why Elon Musk’s Two Weeks On Twitter Herald India’s Dalliance With Digital Demonetisation

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 13, 20220

Musk reportedly sacked 90% of the Twitter India team this week, leaving the company with a skeleton crew. Twitter may or may not continue its legal action challenging the Union government's censorship efforts. Following his takeover of Twitter, billionaire Elon Musk proposed significant reforms that appear to be aimed at a small number of affluent Anglophone countries. However, their influence will be felt all around the world, and maybe more so in places like India, where Twitter has a special place in a young and dynamic public sphere. Journalists and activists have been arrested on the basis of tweets, and the Twitter India team has been accused of both working with the government and rejecting it. This week, Twitter in India has been virtually nonexistent due to rumours that ...

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 10, 20220

In an application to the Supreme Court, Delhi's deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, also claimed indifference on the part of the city's civil officials, saying that issues had become "more acute" after V.K. Saxena was named L-G. Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has made new allegations of "indifference" on the part of civil servants in their interactions with leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the ongoing dispute between the Union government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government over control over services in the national capital. The Deputy Chief Minister filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court claiming that public officials often ignore ministerial orders, refuse to receive phone calls from ministers, and do not show up to meetings wit...

When It Comes To Defending, Democracy And Western Media Sounds Shady At Times

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 10, 20220

Voting and democratic judgments are often final. Al Gore, a Democratic presidential candidate, branded George W. Bush's Florida triumph a "pregnant chad" in 2000 as per an article published by 'The Nation'. The vote-punching method was at issue. Dimpled or pregnant chads imply insufficient force. This was the most distinguished democracy's election procedure. Paper ballots were still used in USA Presidential election as per India Today, 2016 article. Western media and major NGOs and think institutes continue to defame India as a dictatorship despite its better voting processes and impartial Election Commission. The West accepted authoritarian governments that killed their own people in the name of democracy. China shows how Western democracies trade with tyrants that violate human r...

Tossed Aside: Political Intervention Makes Mushroom Quotas A Mess, Courts Should Stay Out; Analysis

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 9, 20220

Whatever their original motivation may have been, 70 years later reservations are not actually about alleviating poverty. The politics of caste allegations have grown rapidly in recent decades, fueling their aggressive development. As a result, the courts have compounded their actions in a way that follows the political flow, rather than defending the constitutional guardrails on the issue. Despite the high income cap of this quota and its high caste makeup, the highest court affirmed both an EWS quota and an arguable infringement of the 50% lakshman rekha this week. In sum, the four separate interpretations of the EWS ruling have only served to sow further confusion and uncertainty. A regulation passed in Maharashtra last year that favoured the Marathas while increasing the tota...

Delhi Doesn’t Need ‘Part Time CM’ Who Is Busy In Political Tourism Says Minister Meenakshi Lekhi; Deets Inside!!!

SHIVANI UJJAINWALNovember 9, 20220

On Wednesday, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi attacked Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that the city didn't need a "part-time chief minister" who wasn't worried about its issues but was engaged in "political tourism." The Aam Aadmi Party administration had not yet responded to Lekhi's accusations. The senior BJP leader cited RTI responses when he said that the Kejriwal administration had spent only little more than Rs. 272 crore on combating pollution out of the more than Rs. 1,286 crore in environment cess that had been collected over the previous seven years. She mentioned that no money had been set up for employee training or for the construction of infrastructure to combat pollution. “This person (Kejriwal) is doing nothing. Delhi does not need a part time chief minister who spends his

Success BJP In Dhamnagar Bypoll Deals Blow To BJD’s Sense Of Invincibility

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 9, 20220

Since losing the Dhamnagar assembly bypoll to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Naveen Patnaik and the BJD have gone winless in Odisha (BJP). Saffron won this coastal seat by 9,881 votes. The BJD hasn't lost a state by-election since the 2019 general elections, when it won a fifth straight term as the state's ruling party with a supermajority of 112 in the assembly of 147. Since 2019, it had won every byelection, including the 2020 Balasore Sadar seat from the BJP. The BJP lost Balasore Sadar, bringing its total assembly seats to 22, although it remains the state's main opposition, a distinction it acquired from the Congress in 2019. Despite the BJP fielding Suryabanshi Suraj, the son of former MLA Bishnu Charan Sethi, who had died, most BJD leaders were confident of regaining the seat ...

BJP To Fight TRS In 2023 State Elections, But Bihar Seems A Strong Hurdle To Overcome

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 8, 20220

The results of byelections held in six states reinforce certain long-standing political trends: Telangana is looking like a TRS vs. BJP battle; Bihar's gathbandhan presents challenges for BJP; and Congress's overreliance on Jats isn't working in Haryana. The challenging victory for TRS in Munugode serves as a clear indication of how competitive the assembly elections would be in 2019. Between 2014 and 2019, CM K Chandrashekar Rao continuously engineered defections from Congress, which resulted in a void in the opposition. He now contends with a far more fearsome foe. The BJP has courted disillusioned leaders in both parties by cultivating social segments that feel disempowered by the rise of TRS and fall of Congress. The BJP placed a large wager on Congress import K Rajgopal Redd...

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 7, 20220

The Old Pension Scheme (OPS) has been requested to be reinstated by a federation of unions representing Union government employees in a letter to the cabinet secretary. NPS workers contribute 10% of their pay per month for their whole service, yet their pension is far lower than OPS workers'. When It Comes To Power Politics, Words Play A Significant Role

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 7, 20220

When morally and ethically damaging phrases are used by political leaders and activists, it is clear that there is a pressing need to examine the semantic role that words play in the public political realm. It's inevitable that the goal of verbal abuse is to disentangle words from concepts. Words are summaries of ideas, and ideas may be either good or bad. Socio-religious obscurantism, for instance, is often expressed through the use of terms that have been created in a group setting. They represent a chilling intolerance of difference and variety. On the other hand, terms like "inequality" and "injustice" draw attention to the need for their opposites. The words have no positive connotation because of the prejudice, hostility, and enmity they inspire. Communal and casteist insults,...

The Need For Transforming Educational System From Grassroot Level To Make New India

Sayani ChakrabortyNovember 5, 20220

The limitations of our society made the idea of a world where every student, no matter where they live, has access to education seem utopian. Technology has brought us closer to this possibility, and now, with digital learning tools and devices at our disposal, it may actually come to pass. There is baggage associated with this option. Over 29 million youngsters in India still don't have access to technology, according to a report released by the Union Education Ministry. Those students were the ones that suffered the most from the outbreak. As someone who believes education should be available to everyone and can make a world of difference, I wholeheartedly support this cause. The necessity of the hour is to lay the groundwork for a brighter future by removing obstacles, encour
