Sameer Wankhede Reaches Court Against Objectionable Content On Social Media, Demands Ban On Comments

NCB Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede and his wife Kranti Redkar have moved the court. Both have demanded a ban on publishing abusive content against them on social media. The petition, filed in the Bombay Civil Court, has appealed that companies be directed against insulting and objectionable content on social media like Google, Facebook and Twitter.

In the plea it is stated by Sameer Wankhede that certain channels operating unrestrictedly on social media platforms are spreading “sponsored misinformation” about him and his wife at the behest of the individuals against whom he had to act as part of his official duty and sought relief under provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Now it is scheduled to come up for hearing on December 17.

A ₹1.25-crore civil defamation suit is filed by Sameer Wankhede’s father, Dnyandev Wankhede on November 7, against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik for posting what he called “derogatory comments on social media against my son and family”. Dnyandev also sought a permanent injunction restraining Malik and others “acting under his instructions” from publishing, writing or speaking in the media about the family.

Sameer Wankhede has said in this petition that the people against whom he has taken action are making false statements against him on social media. Now he has even dragged his wife into it. Offensive, false and baseless comments are being circulated against them too. Both have demanded that on behalf of the court, social media companies should be directed to stop them.

The plea stated, “It is only just and fair that the Defendants i.e. social media platforms be directed to prevent the misuse of their platforms to threaten and defame me for being a Government servant, who has no other remedy”.

Nawab Malik was reprimanded
The court had reprimanded NCP leader Nawab Malik in the related matter. In fact, Aryan Khan was continuously making comments on Twitter about Nawab Malik Samir Wankhede and his family after the drugs case, after which the court had ordered that, directly or even in gestures, about Malik Sameer Wankhede and his family. Will not make any statements.
