It’s been rumoured for a while now that he’s joining the ruling BRS. Sangareddy L.T.R. T. Jayakar Reddy, who’s known for speaking his mind even against his party leaders, recently said that Rahul Gandhi is his only leader and he’ll continue to work under him no matter who’s in charge in Telangana. “I am in the Congress for Mr. Rahul Gandhi and the respect I have for the Gandhi family. Whoever wants to spread rumours about me can do so but the party top leadership knows my commitment to the party,” he said while dismissing rumours that he was about to jump ship to join the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). Mr. Reddy attributes his outspokenness to his commitment to honesty in politics. With a background in the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), a brief tenure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and subsequent stints in the Congress, he was able to garner the attention of President-elect Rahul Gandhi through his outspokenness.
According to Mr. Reddy, these rumors have been going around for the past couple of years and there’s a conspiracy to get rid of him in Congress and smear him on social media with nasty and offensive posts. “I am not used to social media but since I am rooted to the ground my constituency voters will never believe in social media posts. Those targeting me on social media are neither Congress workers nor my voters,” he stated.
He attributed this culture to those who had joined the TDP, though he did not name them explicitly. However, his disapproval of the President of the Telugu Pradesh Congress Committee, A. revanth Reddy, is well-known, and he believes that Revanth Reddy’s supporters are attempting to tarnish his reputation. “May be because I opposed his candidature as the PCC president and also threw my hat in the ring when the high command was deciding the new PCC chief,” he recollected.
