India’s vaccination Drive adds another important group in its feather. This group includes children aged between 12 -14 years. Now, children between this age group will get jabs from 16th March onwards. Corbevax is the choice of vaccination for this age group.

The Union Health Minister, Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, says that “If children are safe, then the country is safe. I am happy to announce that from March 16, covid vaccination will start for children belonging to the age group of 12 -14 years”. He also informed that with this addition we will be giving 6 to 6.5 crore doses to the youngsters.

Vaccination Drive For Youngsters :

There are no two ways that vaccinating such a humungous population needs many steps and processes to achieve the protection cover for all. So, far though we have not completed the target of vaccinating the adult population by Dec 2021. Although new additions according to the intensity of corona wave have been done by the government of India.

Children or teenage vaccination for age group 15 to 17 years started to post the Omicron variant third wave in India. This addition started on 3rd Jan 2022. Under this, till now 75% of teenagers have received one dose or 46 % have received both doses of Covaxin.

For youngsters aged between 12-14 years choice of vaccination is Corbevax. The children will get two jabs 28 days apart. Zydus Cadila’s ZyCov-D and Serum Institute of India’s Covovax too have got emergency approval from WHO for children above 12 years.

As per government sources, five crore doses of Corbevax have been ordered to fulfill the need at this point in time. Along with this, the government announces the removal of the comorbidity clause for precautionary doses in senior citizens.

Conclusion :

 The addition of the 12-14 years age group has brought a huge relief for parents and guardians. As of now the schools all over the nation are opening again. So, this will provide a protection cover for young children. Even the vaccination addition for teenagers aged from 15 – 17 years received an overwhelming response.

It is very clear that the role of Vaccination has proved so crucial in defeating the deadly pandemic. Yet we should not forget that mask and vaccination is still important for safety for all.
