According to the latest NCRB report, another fact is that whether in rural or urban areas, most of the road accidents are happening around residential areas.
59.7% road accidents were recorded in rural areas of the country in the year 2021.30% of road accidents occurred in rural areas near residential areas. Their number was 72,330. 7.7% of road accidents occurred at pedestrian crossings in urban areas. Their number was 12,528. 1,62,169 road accidents took place in the urban areas of the country, which is 40.3 percent of the total accidents.
2,40,747 road accidents took place in the rural areas of the country last year. The total number of road accidents during this period was 4,02,116. 48,270 road accidents took place in urban areas where people lived nearby. It was about 30 percent of the total accidents in urban areas.Last year, 28,873 road accidents took place near schools, colleges or other educational institutions in the country. This is eight percent of the total road accidents in the country.
More danger near schools, colleges and educational institutions
The NCRB report for the year 2022 says that the number of road accidents near schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the country is worrying. Despite all the indicators and measures, expected success is not being achieved in preventing accidents near educational institutions and human loss due to them.
24.4% road accidents took place in Uttar Pradesh last year near schools, colleges or educational institutions in urban areas, which is the highest in the country. 9.4% of road accidents occurred near schools, colleges or educational institutions in urban areas in Tamil Nadu in the year 2021. 18% of the deaths in Uttar Pradesh were recorded in road accidents near residential areas in urban areas in the past year. This is the largest number in the country.
