Recently, the Surat Sessions Court extended Rahul Gandhi&#8217;s bail on Monday and set his upcoming hearing for April 13 in relation to a criminal defamation charge from 2019. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In his most recent petition, Gandhi asked the court to reject the magistrate&#8217;s finding that convicted him of defamation, as well as to temporarily suspend his conviction until the matter is settled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-156750 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1678964510_rahul-gandhi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1678964510_rahul-gandhi.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1678964510_rahul-gandhi-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1678964510_rahul-gandhi-768x427.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/1678964510_rahul-gandhi-450x250.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Congress leader was found guilty and given a two-year prison sentence in the case on Thursday (23 March), but the court later approved bail for him. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In response to a grievance brought forth by BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi, the case was brought against Gandhi over his comment that &#8220;How come all robbers have Modi surname?&#8221; Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi made the comments while speaking at a rally in Kolar, Karnataka.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Senior attorney R. S. Cheema submitted the petition for a stay of execution, which was &#8220;directed, managed, and advised&#8221; by senior attorney Abhishek Singhvi, a Rajya Sabha Member for the Congress party. The complainant, Purnesh Modi, who brought the criminal defamation action after Mr. Gandhi declared &#8220;all thieves have Modi surname&#8221; at a rally in Karnataka during the 2019 Lok Sabha election, received notice from the court of additional district judge R.P. Mogera as well.
