In mathematics, 10 percent of students were in the category, the highest in Bihar. Meanwhile, a survey conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) found that 11 percent of students across the country lacked basic math skills.<\/p>\n<p>The percentage of Hindi in Grade 3 was 25 percent, the report revealed. The study was conducted on about 86,000 Grade 3 students in 10,000 schools, including private and government institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the study was to understand the early learning levels of Class 3 students in language and numeracy and to design interventions accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>The study was organized under the Ministry of Education&#8217;s Nipun Bharat project which seeks to achieve basic literacy and numeracy skills among all Class 3 children by 2026-27.<\/p>\n<p>For the survey, literacy (language) skills were tested in 20 languages \u200b\u200bused as medium of instruction in various states and Union Territories. These were Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, English, Garo, Marathi, Mizo, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Khasi, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-153800 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/eng1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1031\" height=\"712\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/eng1.jpg 1031w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/eng1-300x207.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/eng1-1024x707.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/eng1-768x530.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/eng1-450x311.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/eng1-869x600.jpg 869w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1031px) 100vw, 1031px\" \/>English language proficiency was tested in all states and Union Territories. The subject Hindi was tested in 18 states and union territories. They include Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Assam.<\/p>\n<p>In English, 34 percent exceeded global expectations.\u00a0<span class=\"plag_find active\" data-countername=\"plag_match_counter1\">15 percent &#8220;lacked the most basic knowledge of the language.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In math, only 10 percent of students across the country could be expected, while the majority of students were at average-performing standards. The report states that 42 percent of students &#8220;met the global minimum standard&#8221; or that they were able to do basic math. Thirty-seven percent were partially proficient in the subject, meaning they completed only half of the work while 11 percent of students lacked basic math knowledge.
