UPI can so far be used to link debit cards and bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUPI has become the most inclusive mode of payment in India with over 26 crore unique users and five crore merchants on the platform. The progress of UPI in recent years has been unparalleled. Many other countries are engaged with us in adopting similar methods in their countries,\u201d said the RBI governor Shaktikanta Das<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-147849 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/UPI_payment_1200x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"770\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/UPI_payment_1200x768.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/UPI_payment_1200x768-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/UPI_payment_1200x768-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/UPI_payment_1200x768-450x253.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the last couple of years, India has seen a boom in the fintech companies and the recent RBI decision would enable them to have more consumers. \u201cThis will provide additional convenience to the users and enhance the scope of digital payments,\u201d Das said.<\/p>\n<p>However, before implementing the credit card linkage, RBI has to settle down on the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) which is charged by issuing banks from merchants to complete a transaction. So far, there is no MDR in place for transactions using debit cards.<\/p>\n<p>Experts are viewing this move as a step towards clamping down on rising inflation.
