Realising\u00a0the necessity\u00a0for extending free ART to increasing number\u00a0of youngsters\u00a0living with HIV, the paediatric AIDS initiative was launched in 2006 .<\/p>\n<p>The main focus was\u00a0to scale back\u00a0the disparity between\u00a0the quantity\u00a0of kids\u00a0living with HIV and AIDS\u00a0and also the\u00a0number\u00a0of youngsters\u00a0receiving treatment.<\/p>\n<p>However despite all the efforts by\u00a0the govt.\u00a0and civil society, sustainable access of CLHIV and families to ART centres\u00a0is commonly\u00a0limited\u00a0because of\u00a0several socio-economic and institutional barriers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/akm-img-a-in.tosshub.com\/businesstoday\/images\/story\/202012\/1280px_aids_day_660_011220114228.jpg?size=1200:675\" alt=\"World AIDS Day 2020: See significance, theme, quotes - BusinessToday\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Stigma\u00a0and therefore the\u00a0resultant discrimination permeating the social milieu at various levels : within the family, community ,institutions\u00a0and therefore the\u00a0society at large.<\/p>\n<p>Economic constraints caused by inadequate availability\u00a0of economic\u00a0resources in poor and child headed families\u00a0leading to\u00a0ART taking a back seat.<\/p>\n<p>Infrastructural issues\u00a0associated with\u00a0location of the ART centres at\u00a0a protracted\u00a0distance, insufficient number of ART centres to cater\u00a0an outsized\u00a0population.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/files.globalgiving.org\/pfil\/10374\/pict_large.jpg?m=1333390520000\" alt=\"Reports on DESIRE Society for HIV\/AIDS Children in India - GlobalGiving\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Unsatisfactory support from parents and care givers\u00a0as a result of\u00a0procedural difficulties at ART centres.<\/p>\n<p>Lack of awareness about Paediatric ART and HIV\/AIDS since ART was primarily adult focussed and there has been lack\u00a0of kid\u00a0focused information, education and communication on HIV\/AIDS. Lack of coordination, collaboration and convergence between agencies, depts and related programmes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.oneindia.com\/img\/1200x80\/2012\/10\/15-hiv-children.jpg\" alt=\"HIV | AIDS | Karnataka | Children - Oneindia News\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Improved access to ART centres\u00a0is vital\u00a0to fight against HIV\/AIDS.It is important\u00a0to style\u00a0and implement intensive child-focused IEC separately targeting rural\u00a0and concrete\u00a0population through an appropriate\u00a0mixture of\u00a0media.<\/p>\n<p>It is also important to disseminate appropriate information on HIV and AIDS ,paediatric diagnosis and ART through mass media and other communication campaigns to impart correct knowledge and generate awareness across rural\u00a0and concrete\u00a0areas.<\/p>\n<p>It is also imperative to expand the treatment by decentralising ART services by increasing\u00a0the amount\u00a0of ART centres\u00a0near\u00a0small and medium towns with services like HIV testing, CD4 count and prognostic support. These should be\u00a0founded\u00a0at strategic locations\u00a0to cut back\u00a0the time taken and also the expenses involved in travelling long distances\u00a0to achieve\u00a0these centres.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.giveindia.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/10-cancer-care-NGOs-in-India-helping-the-poor-banner.jpg?fit=1200%2C675&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"10 cancer care NGOs in India helping the poor - GiveIndia's Blog\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There should be direct referral\u00a0of kids\u00a0from the counselling section to ART section\u00a0to avoid wasting\u00a0them from the hassles of waiting at different counters. To further improve access, flexible timings should be introduced at ART centres\u00a0to assist\u00a0parents\u00a0and youngsters\u00a0avoid frequent absence from work and schools.<\/p>\n<p>There is\u00a0a desire\u00a0for improved coordination between AIDS control societies and district health depts.\u00a0there&#8217;s\u00a0a necessity\u00a0to strengthen operational facilities and comprehensive package of services under one roof.
