Currently, the upper education regulator\u2019s rules don&#8217;t allow simultaneous enrollment in two programmes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/akm-img-a-in.tosshub.com\/businesstoday\/images\/story\/202008\/iitdelhi_660_180820040600.jpg?size=1200:675\" alt=\"Final exam can be postponed, not cancelled,' says UGC to Supreme Court - BusinessToday\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This inflexibility is commonly cited as a serious cause for the shortage of meaningful conversations across streams of data. The deficit is especially glaring because a spread of latest challenges \u2014 from addressing temperature change to designing employment programmes that cater to local has to making workplaces more inclusive \u2014 require the broad-basing of experience.<\/p>\n<p>The reform is, therefore, much needed and if done well, can go a protracted way towards fulfilling one amongst the key objectives of liberal education \u2014 broadening outlooks and expanding the perspectives of scholars. The regulator will need to do that without becoming overbearing \u2014 its record isn&#8217;t too inspiring on this count.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/gumlet.assettype.com\/nationalherald%2F2021-08%2F77ca9a5d-ce80-4aed-becc-d6a7b249d581%2FOnline.jpg?rect=0%2C0%2C1200%2C675&amp;auto=format%2Ccompress&amp;fmt=webp&amp;w=1200\" alt=\"UGC allows varsities to teach online, distance learning post COVID\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The NEP involves \u201ccritical thinking\u201d and free inquiry. Reforms towards that end, including the most recent changes envisaged by the UGC, must begin by addressing a vexed issue: Autonomy, or the shortage of it, for institutions yet as for teachers. Institutions have their own ethos, studies and comparative advantages as the base.<\/p>\n<p>The thrust towards multidisciplinary training should address deficiencies but it must even be careful to not undermine the benefits of institutions. The task for the implementation of the NEP\u2019s vision has just begun.
