With this newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Meghalaya will gain 18.33 square kilometers and Assam 18.46 sq km out of the entire of 36.79 sq km in 6 out of 12 areas differences were resolved between the 2 states.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.drishtiias.com\/images\/uploads\/1642161389_Assam_Meghalaya_Border_Dispute_Drishti_IAS_English.png\" alt=\"Assam-Meghalaya Border Dispute\" \/><br \/>\nAs far as the MoU is concerned, it was signed between Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/akm-img-a-in.tosshub.com\/indiatoday\/images\/story\/202203\/WhatsApp_Image_2022-03-29_at_1_3.jpeg?l6Ch.U3bODW8qFP4m6Ge2D_H0e0JCFXO&amp;size=770:433\" alt=\"70% resolved: Amit Shah as Assam, Meghalaya sign pact over decades-old border row - India News\" \/><br \/>\nAmit Shah, the Union home minister was also present during this signing.<br \/>\nThe boundary dispute has been happening between both states for an extended period of your time and over the years 50 meetings are conducted to resolve this issue.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nenow.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/seo-5.jpg?fit=1200%2C615&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Assam-Meghalaya border row: Six areas of difference to be resolved in phase 1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The MoU is considered to be a full and final agreement with respect to the six areas of difference. The areas mentioned are approximate in nature supported a table-top exercise conducted using spatial technologies. it&#8217;ll be more accurately determined during the Survey of India\u2019s detailed survey for the demarcation and delineation of the boundary which will be conducted within the presence of representatives from both the state\u2019s respective governments.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/im.rediff.com\/news\/2021\/nov\/16assam-megh.jpg\" alt=\"Assam, Meghalaya look to solve border row in 6 areas by year end - Rediff.com India News\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This MoU has been signed to settle the case of the inter-state boundary between Meghalaya and Assam with relation to 6 of the 12 areas of difference.The 12 areas of difference which are crucial are-Gizang, Tarabari, Langpih (Lumpi), Hahim, Boklapara, Borduar, Khanapara-Pillangkata, Nongwah-Mawtamur (Garbhanga), Block-I &amp; Block-II, Deshdoomreah, Khanduli and Psiar, and Ratacherra<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Gizang, Tarabari, Boklapara, Hahim, Ratacherra, and Khanapara-Pillangkata are the 6 areas of difference that are taken into consideration within the first phase.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A border agreement has been signed between Assam and Meghalaya recently.
