The issue of MSP gained the limelight during and post farmers&#8217; protests.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/msp-policy-needs-a-review-repeal-of-laws-unfair-to-silent-majority-farmers-sc-panel\/articleshow\/90366151.cms\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-143874 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MSP.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1079\" height=\"1058\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MSP.jpg 1079w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MSP-300x294.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MSP-1024x1004.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MSP-768x753.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MSP-450x441.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/MSP-612x600.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1079px) 100vw, 1079px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even during multiple dialogues with the Centre and farmers association, no clear results came out on MSP demand. As the protest kept on intensifying, the Supreme Court intervened in the issue.<\/p>\n<p>A committee was called upon by the SC consisting of 4 members. Later, one of the members resigned from the committee. Finally, a three-member committee appointed by the apex court conducted the study to understand the issue of MSP and three farm laws.<\/p>\n<h2>SC Committee Report Details<\/h2>\n<p>The committee appointed by the SC interacted with 73 farmers&#8217; organisations, which included 3.83 crore farmers. Out of these, 86% of farmers completely supported the three farm laws. Whereas, 13% were against them and 1% supported the laws with some modifications.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, these 73 farmer organisations did not include the organisations which were openly protesting against the three farm laws. The main reason behind this was the fact that the farmer organisations felt the members of the committee appointed were already in favour of the farm laws. The report submitted by the SC committee said, &#8220;MSP demand is irrational and infeasible to implement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The panel also stated that MSP was designed during the period of the green revolution for cereals. The members recommended that buying crops at MSP can be done by the state government as the need and priorities of each state are different. For effective MSP procurement, states need to be more at the forefront.<\/p>\n<p>The committee also suggested the diversification of value crops along with new methods of crop production. Framers also need better infrastructure facilities in agriculture, on which both the Centre and state governments should work together.
