With this, Mumbai has become the first city in India to have such a strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Before the preparation of MCAP, a vulnerability assessment of greenhouse emission (GHG) and natural green cover inventory was conducted. World Resources Institute (WRI), India, and therefore the C-40 Cities network provided technical support to BMC for the preparation of the plan.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.assettype.com\/freepressjournal\/2022-03\/d6a35e86-6070-4e73-933c-6d57607779d4\/Aad.png\" alt=\"Mumbai sets an ambitious goal to achieve net-zero by 2050\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Highlights of MCAP<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>MCAP has laid down a 30-year roadmap for Mumbai to tackle the challenges of temperature change. it&#8217;s set short-, medium- and long-term climate goals to realize the target of net zero emissions by 2050. It&#8217;s identified six strategic areas where massive changes will need to be remodeled the following 30 years.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/akm-img-a-in.tosshub.com\/indiatoday\/images\/story\/202203\/bmc_image.jpg?BBGXiQBHNc7MKhHOdh1sjM3BtAJnh6i8&amp;size=770:433\" alt=\"Mumbai civic body to form Climate Cell to implement action plan; aims carbon neutrality by 2050 - Cities News\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The main focus of MCAP is decarbonizing Mumbai\u2019s energy grid. this can be important because 95% of Mumbai\u2019s energy needs are met by fuel sources. MCAP envisages 90% of Mumbai\u2019s energy from renewable sources by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>The town also will explore energy sources like tidal power, green hydrogen, etc. there&#8217;s a concept to shift from LPG to other cleaner methods like electrified cooktops. MCAP also encourages green buildings.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mumbailive.com\/images\/media\/images\/mcap_1647231403328.jpg?bg=e3d9d6&amp;crop=1575%2C884.2105263157895%2C0%2C82.89473684210526&amp;fit=crop&amp;fm=webp&amp;h=768&amp;height=1050&amp;w=1368&amp;width=1575\" alt=\"Climate Action Plan: Mumbai Becomes 1st City In South Asia To Set 'Net Zero' Goal By 2050\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The transport sector contributes to a significant portion of Mumbai\u2019s emissions. MCAP proposes giving a push to conveyance and non-motorized transport. there&#8217;s an idea to get 2,100 electric buses by 2023. Incentives sort of a reduction in toll charges, parking fees, etc. are offered to electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/static.toiimg.com\/thumb\/msid-90187817,width-1200,height-900,resizemode-4\/.jpg\" alt=\"Mumbai's first Climate Action Plan (MCAP) released | Mumbai News - Times of India\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Every day BMC manages a mean of 5,500 million tonnes of solid waste. although Solid waste\u2019s contribution to emissions is a smaller amount, it&#8217;s the most important health concern within the city. Thus, there&#8217;s a necessity to scale back the amount of waste generated. The plan proposes a \u201cReduce, Reuse and Recycle\u201d approach. there&#8217;s a concept to terminate the usage of single-use plastics by 2025.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/evreka.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/49577-min-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Smart Solutions in Municipal Solid Waste Management \u203a Evreka\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MCAP aims to boost monitoring and forecasting of air quality and also prescribe sector-specific strategies to cut back emissions. Some proposed strategies include reducing traffic jam by adopting better management systems, banning entry of heavy vehicles during peak hours, promoting renewable energy in industrial units and power plants, etc.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/breathepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/air-quality-alert-4x3-1-1080x675.jpg\" alt=\"What Is An Air Quality Alert? | What Does An Air Quality Alert Mean\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urban greening and biodiversity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MCAP aims to extend the green cover to 30-40% of the expanse of Mumbai by 2030. It also proposes increasing budget allocation for urban greening, raising funds through green bonds, offering land tax rebates to housing societies that promote urban greening, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Urban flooding and water resource management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MCAP proposes building flood-resilient infrastructure.
