The National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5) has indicated a decline in the rate of population growth in India. It indicated that the Total Fertility Rate (TFR) has come to 2 i.e. one woman on average is giving birth to 2 children. To be more precise it\u2019s 1.6 in urban and 2.1 in rural areas. Also for the first time, females outnumbered males. According to the survey, there are 1020 females per 1000 males in the nation. This survey is done by the central health ministry every 5 years. The results came out of the one conducted in two phases between 2019 and 2021. Though it is only a sample survey the estimations and conclusions of these surveys have been found to be precise over the years. The actual demographics will be clear after the 2021 census.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1002\" height=\"548\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/india-population-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-137534\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/india-population-1.jpg 1002w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/india-population-1-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/india-population-1-768x420.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1002px) 100vw, 1002px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The population division of UN suggests that this fertility rate can be considered below replacement rate which means the number of births is being less than that of deaths. Hence the population of India is declining. But this does not mean a sudden decline. Experts say that it might take some decades. So there\u2019re still high chances of India surpassing China in terms of the population since China has a fertility rate of 1.7. It has also been estimated that India will turn up to the first position replacing China by 2027. Yet another aspect to be marked is that in the last 5 years, the number of girls born per thousand males was 924 in urban and 931 in rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though it is true that the population of youth i.e. the potentially reproductive population is still more in India which clearly suggests that the rise in population in the coming decades is inevitable in the nation but the drop in fertility rate is still a positive mark.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"font-size: 0px; height: 0px; line-height: 0px; margin: 0; padding: 0; clear: both;\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The discourse on the population of India has taken a new turn.
