It is the most polluted capital in the world. It is said that the lives of Delhi residents get reduced by almost ten years due to the levels of air pollution in the city. It is estimated that air pollution in India kills about 2 million people every year, becoming the 5<sup>th<\/sup> largest killer in the nation. According to WHO, India has the highest death rate from chronic respiratory diseases and asthma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/indianprojectwinsecooscars-1634557445.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-136836\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/indianprojectwinsecooscars-1634557445.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/indianprojectwinsecooscars-1634557445-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Amidst all these terrifying statistics, an innovation has emerged as a ray of hope. A Delhi based 30 year old mechanical engineer and entrepreneur, Vidyut Mohan has bagged The Earthshot Prize, dubbed as \u201cEco Oscars\u201d for his innovation which is being looked up as a potential solution to the terrible air quality levels in Delhi. This innovation is low cost, portable equipment which can be mounted on tractors or deployed on farmland. This machine can help turn agricultural waste into fuel and consequently contribute in reducing air pollution. Hope no one wonders how agricultural waste is connected with air pollution. Burning of agricultural waste contributes upto 30% to India\u2019s air pollution. This innovation promises to reduce smoke emission to upto 98%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently on his trip to Glasgow, Scotland for the COP26 (Conference Of Parties) Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Vidyut to know about his invention.&nbsp; Prime Minister talked about the working and manufacturing of these machines and how these are being made available to the farmers. Vidyut stated that this innovation will contribute majorly to India\u2019s pledge of reaching net zero by 2070 at the COP26 Summit called by UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2019-Vidyut-Mohan-1-e1580396369841.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-136766\" width=\"591\" height=\"591\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2019-Vidyut-Mohan-1-e1580396369841.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2019-Vidyut-Mohan-1-e1580396369841-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caravanalive.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2019-Vidyut-Mohan-1-e1580396369841-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 591px) 100vw, 591px\" \/><figcaption>Vidyut Mohan, co-founder and CEO of Takachar<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>At COP26 a target has been set up to make the carbon emissions reach a net zero mark by 2050. Reaching the net zero mark means balancing out the amount of emission and elimination of Carbon from the atmosphere. Russia and China has promised to reach this target by 2060 while India has pledged to reach it by 2070. Not having much of the alternative energy source i.e. Uranium which is found in not so huge amounts in reserves in some states including Jharkhand and Rajasthan, India would have to shut down its factories and industries and suffer massively if it would have chosen to reach net zero by 2050. Though India has proposed to make it a member of NSG (Nuclear Suppliers Group) if it is expected to reach the target by 2050.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the acceptance of this proposal might take time due to the interference of certain nations, meanwhile Vidyut\u2019s innovation is ray of hope for more than 30 million people living in the capital.
