Indra Pratap Tiwari- also known as Khabbu Tiwari, BJP MLA from Gosaiganj in Ayodhya, is set to lose his MLA status due to a fake mark sheet case which was filed against him 29 years ago.

In 1992, the then principal of Saket college had filed a case against three people in Ram janmabhoomi police station for using fake mark sheets for admission and Indra Pratap Tiwari was one among them. It is interesting that he is convicted after 29 years, that too after becoming an MLA.

Along with him, former students’ union president of Saket college Foolchand Yadav and chief of Chanakya Parishad, Kripa Nidhan Tiwari have also been found guilty of creating fake mark sheets. All three of them were sentenced to five years in jail and also imposed a fine of 8000 by the special court. In consonance with the FIR, Tiwari had failed in his second year of graduation and he took admission in the next class by misappropriating mark sheets.

The charge sheet, in this case, was filed only after 13 years and the investigator presented the chargesheet in the court against all the people under the sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of IPC.

Assembly membership of Indra Pratap Tiwari is also under threat as he was convicted. As per the law, the membership can be terminated for the punishment of more than 2 years. But the MLA is determined to challenge the decision of court. He was elected as an MLA in 2017 . There are around 15 cases where he was accused. These include, Attempt to murder under IPC section 307 (2 cases), kidnapping in order to murder under IPC section 364, causing hurt voluntarily, 3 charges related to rioting, armed with deadly weapon under IPC section 148 and many more. Along with this, he also has financial liability over 2 lakhs.
