From catering to fan’s unified interest for romantic and action films, to creating a niche for autobiographical films, Bollywood has always covered a broad spectrum of films that are released each year. With a wide reach, Indian cinema has always tried to impact the lives of its fans, be it through portrayal of love, realistic or fictional scenarios, or enacting influential and powerful people.

So when the news that actress Alia Bhatt will be playing the role of famous prostitute Gangubai in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next directorial, Gangubai Kathiawadi came out, with her first look as Gangubai in a poster where she was seen in a whole new avatar with a nose pin and a huge bindi, the fans couldn’t tame their excitement.

Though the shooting started in December last year, the Coronavirus pandemic brought everything to a standstill and soon the news of the set being demolished started circulating. It was only a few weeks ago, when a report in Mid-Day stated that Sanjay Leela Bhansali called for the set to be demolished as it was unused for five weeks at Film City studios. It stated that after much deliberation it was decided that recreating the set would probably be a cheaper alternative than keeping it standing in these uncertain circumstances.

However, contrary to the report, the set was recently seen getting a rain cover to protect it from rain damage. According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, the set was getting a rain cover, and about 10-12 workers were spotted erecting scaffolding to safeguard it.

Meanwhile, according to a report in Koimoi, about 70 percent of Gangubai Kathiawadi has been shot and the makers will try concluding the remaining part as soon as they can. A source revealed, “They are presently working out a plan for the shoot and are aiming to resume by July end.
