Delhi has stepped up security ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party’s (CJP) planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place on Friday, October 16. Around 6,000 police personnel and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) units have been deployed across central Delhi to maintain law and order. Authorities have installed barricades, introduced traffic restrictions, and announced the closure of Central Park as precautionary measures. Police personnel will also use body cameras to monitor the situation during the protest. With tight security arrangements and traffic diversions in place, commuters may face inconvenience as the national capital prepares for another round of demonstrations.

The Delhi Police has reportedly deployed around 6,000 personnel across the area to maintain security during the protest. Several companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will also assist the police. Meanwhile, the CJP has urged people to join the demonstration carrying the national flag. Security forces have been stationed at key locations to maintain law and order.

Central Park to Remain Shut

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) announced that Central Park in Connaught Place would remain closed to the public on October 16 and 17. In an official notice, the civic body stated that the park would be temporarily shut due to administrative reasons. However, the council did not provide further details about the closure or the reasons behind its decision.

“It is hereby informed that the CENTRAL PARK, CONNAUGHT PLACE, shall remain closed for the general public, on 16th October 2026 & 17th October 2026, due to administrative reasons,” the NDMC’s public notice said. The development followed the NDMC’s decision on Thursday to deny permission for a protest planned by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke at Central Park in Connaught Place on Friday against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke’s Reaction on this

Reacting to the NDMC notice announcing Central Park’s closure on October 16 and 17, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke shared his response on X, expressing his views on the decision. “If we announce 100 places, will Narendra Modi shut down all 100 places?”

Police Appeal to Public to Stay Away from CJP’s Protest

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has urged people to avoid the CJP’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march at Connaught Place. However, the police said it could facilitate a select group of people to wave the national flag and sing the national anthem at a suitable location. In a statement issued on Thursday, the police cited prohibitory orders currently in force across Connaught Place and nearby areas. It also indicated that a limited number of participants might be permitted to take part in the symbolic display of patriotism, provided suitable arrangements could be made while ensuring compliance with the existing restrictions and maintaining law and order in the area.

Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is already in effect to maintain peace, ensure public safety, and protect lives and public and private property. According to the police, several trader and market associations in Connaught Place and nearby areas had requested protection for their establishments against unruly individuals and unlawful gatherings. They expressed concerns that such incidents could disrupt business activities and create disturbances during the festive season, affecting traders, customers, and the overall commercial environment.
