Estimates Committee Meeting in Mumbai 

In late June 2025, Iqra Hassan Chaudhary, the Lok Sabha MP from Kairana, travelled to Mumbai to participate in the two‑day National Conference of Estimates Committees, held on June 23–24 at Vidhan Bhavan.

The event marked the 75th anniversary of the Estimates Committee, a key parliamentary panel tasked with scrutinizing government budget allocations and ensuring fiscal responsibility. 

The conference was inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Other chief dignitaries such as Maharashtra’s Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and other state and national legislative leaders were present. 

As a newly elected MP and committee member, Ms Chaudhary joined fellow parliamentarians and legislative representatives from across India for sessions on “Role of Estimates Committee in Effective Monitoring and Review of Budget Estimates.”

The gathering emphasized enhancing administrative efficiency, promoting economic governance, and leveraging technology and data analytics for stronger public fund oversight. 

Her presence highlighted the growing participation of young leaders in parliamentary oversight processes. Ms. Chaudhary returned to Delhi following the concluding session. The conference closed was with valedictory remarks emphasizing democratic accountability and continued fiscal vigilance. 

About Iqra Hasan Chaudhary 

 

Iqra Hasan Chaudhary, 30 was born on 26th August, 1994. Today she is serving as an MP from Kairana Lok Sabha, Uttar Pradesh. She represents Samajwadi Party in the House of the People.

She is the daughter of  Chaudhary Munawar hassan, a former member of both Lok Sabha (1996-1998 & 2004-2008) and Rajya Sabha (1998-2004). He also served as an MLA (1991-1996) and an MLC (Jan 2004-May 2004). Her mother, Begam Tabassum Hassan, also served as an MP from 2009-2014 and 2018-2019. She belongs to a political family of Muslim Gujjars, Uttar Pradesh. 

She completed her schooling from Queen Mary, New Delhi and completed her graduation from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, DU. After graduation, she completed her MSc in International Politics of Law from SOAS University, London, in 2020. 

Her political career began after her brother, Nahid Hasan was jailed under the Gangster Act, 1986. Even her mother was under the suspicion of this act. She led a campaign and marked a win for her brother, from Kairana Lok Sabha seat. In the 2024 General Elections, Iqra contested elections from the Kairana seat and defeated Pradeep Kumar (BJP) by a margin of 69,116 votes. 

As an MP, Iqra works in various fields from education, women empowerment, and farmers as well. During one of her interviews, she accepted the fact that she comes from a privileged family, and the position she is in today is because of her privilege. Even though she promises to work for the people, and would never let her identity come in between.
