Indian Cricket Captain Virat Kohli was in the capital along with business tycoon Sanjeev Goenka and Pullela Gopichand to launch something big and new for the sports world. Captain Virat Kohli joined hands with Sanjeev Goenka to launch Indian sports awards to honour sports personalities for their outstanding contribution and achievements to the field. The RP-SG Indian Sports Honours is dedicated to rewarding excellence in the field of sports. These Sports Awards will also help identify and support athletes with potential and award them scholarships. Virat Kohli and Sanjiv Goenka have jointly partnered to create this platform to honour exceptional performances, in line with their vision to support the development of Indian Sports. These Awards are special as Sports Journalists, Sporting Legends and the Fans will be coming together to reward their heroes.

“India has made rapid strides as a sporting nation. The days of being a one-sport country are behind us. The time is just right to introduce an institution that will recognise and reward our top sporting achievers and put the spotlight on those who are expected to do the country proud in the years to come,” Virat Kohli, India’s cricket captain, said at the launch of the RP-SG Indian Sports Honours, in a media conference held at the Taj Mansingh, New Delhi, earlier today. This annual celebration of Indian Sport has been conceptualised and will be executed by Cornerstone Sport, a Mumbai based Sports marketing agency.

The initiative will have a platform for all sports. They will identify one sportsperson from each sport and will look after them, nurture them and track their growth. Virat said,
“As far as Virat Kohli Foundation goes, we’ll be providing support of Rs 2 crore for these sportspersons every year and this amount might even go up.” Pullela Gopichand will be heading the jury of these awards and Virat Kohli being the chief patron has ruled himself out of contention for the awards that will be presented at the inaugural RP-SG Indian Sports Honours Ceremony, to be held in Mumbai on Saturday, 11 November 2017. Star India Pvt Ltd will be the Official Broadcaster of the event.

This is surely going to bring in a lot of change and growth in the sports world. We wish this initiative helps us in giving the nation some amazing talent!
