Shashi Tharoor, Former Minister and congress leader was arrested today while he was leading a protest against note ban in his constituency of Thiruvananthpuram though he was released later.
He was heading a team of 500 protesters who were marching to save the constituency from Prime Minister’s demonetisation drive. According to police reports, the crowd was protesting at the RBI office, blocking a major road of the city that caused traffic jam.
"We were sitting on a peaceful dharna outside RBI office but we were arrested by police and were later released," said Mr Tharoor to news agency ANI.
Significantly, PM Modi has banned the old 500 and 1000 currently notes on 8th November,2016 and after that the opposition along with TMC and other political parties is continuously targeting the government on this issue. 30th December, 2016 was the deadline for changing old notes and the opposition is still seemed to be agitated regarding this decision of the government.
