HS Prannoy amazed Lee Chong Wei while Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu crashed out

In the I Indonesia Open Superseries Premier on Thursday, HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the men’s singles quarterfinals while Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu crashed out of the women’s singles in the second round.

HS Prannoy registered his victory over World’s No. 1 Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in straight games by 21-10 21-18 in a 40-minute game to enter into the men’s singles quarterfinals in the Indonesia Open Super Series Premier. Later, K Srikanth also registered his victory over fourth seed Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen by 21-15 20-22 21-16, to join Prannoy in the quarterfinals in the $1,000,000 tournament.

However, India suffered a huge loss in women’s event with both Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu moving out of the Indonesia Open Superseries Premier on Thursday. They lost their second round matches in three-game affairs. Saina lost to Thailand’s  Nitchaon Jindapol by 15-21 21-6 16-21 in a 63 -minute game while fourth seed Sindhu suffered a defeat by 21-15 12- 21 18-21  in a 54-minute match.

Prannoy will next face Olympic champion, Chen Long of China, while Srikanth will meet the winner of the match between Chinese Taipei’s Tzu Wei Wang and Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus.
