Mumbai won the toss and opted to bowl first and then chase as they have been great chasing totals. Mumbai started the innings in a perfect manner picking up inform batsman Tripathi for a duck in first over itself by McClenaghan and in the 2nd over Smith was dismissed by Malinga for just 1 run. Pune were 9/2 at the end of 2 overs. Rahane and Manoj Tiwary decided to stick to crease and grab a partnership after losing 2 early wickets. Both of them stood together but were unable to attack the Mumbai bowling attack as Malinga, Krunal and Bumrah bowled decent overs. Rahane completed his half century with a four and it seemed like now he will be going after bowlers for big shots but soon Karn Sharma bowled out Rahane LBW; he scored 56 runs and this lead to Dhoni coming out to crease in 13th over. The score was just 89/3 at the end of 13th over and Pune needed to attack in order to put up a fighting total on the board. 19th over by McClenaghan was hit for 26 runs and 15 runs were pulled out of final over as Dhoni scored 40 off just 26 balls. A target of 163 was on board which was a below par score and could be chased easily by Mumbai at home but Pune bowlers had a different plan.

Parthiv Patel looked confident as he came out to bat and hit a couple of boundaries and soon he had scored 22 off just 11 balls but runs were coming from one end only Simmons was yet to play some good shots but he was run out in an unlucky manner as Parthiv hit a shot straight to the stumps and the ball had just roughed the bowlers hand. Washington Sundar in the very next over picked up Rohit Sharma LBW for just 1 run and Rayudu for a duck. This over had turned the game around; pressure was now on Mumbai as at the end of power play the score read 42/3. Washington Sundar returned in his 3rd over to give Pune another break as he now removed the danger man Pollard this time. Game was slipping out of Mumbai’s hand as their key batsmen were cleaned up by Sundar. Parthiv tried to make a comeback but wickets falling from the other end were not able to support him chase the target. Run rate was ticking up and Mumbai had no choice but to play big shots as they failed to clear the boundaries and got caught out.  Lower order batsman gave away their wickets trying to clear boundaries. They ended up 142/9 at the end of 20 overs.

Pune won by 20 runs and Washington Sundar was made man of the match for his brilliant bowling effort.
