Gorkhaland demand comes into the limelight once again. This time, imposition of Bengali language compulsorily in the schools of Darjeeling hilly areas has sparked the row. People from the hilly regions gathered under the banner of Gorkhaland Janmukti Morcha (GJM).

Recently, Mamata Banerjee led Trinmool Congress party government makes Bengali language mandatory in the schools. It threatens the language base of the Gorkha community, who basically belongs to Nepal.

GJM is the main political party, representing the hilly regions of West Bengal state including Darjeeling, Kalimpong and other hilly regions. GJM contests all kind of the elections as an ally of the BJP.

GJM party leader Bimal Gurung took out a massive procession in Darjeeling and shouted “Go back Mamata” slogans to which a big support came from the locals. The BJP too supporting the cause of GJM and separate state demand gets approval from the party ruling at the centre.
