Army Deployed in Darjeeling over Massive Violence

Darjeeling is burning again. One side is Gorkha people, who are agitating, now by arsons and stone pelting on security forces over GJM’s (Gorkha Janmukti Morcha) chief Bimal Gurung’s residence raid amid several protests.

Now, several columns of the Army have been deployed in Darjeeling to tackle violence and arsons, which have griped the hills.

The raid to the headquarters of GJM was backed by continuous protests by the party supporters over imposition of Bengali language in the school curriculum of Darjeeling and adjoining hilly regions of West Bengal.

Actually the violent incidents were erupted suddenly following the raid on Bimal Gurung’s residence in Patlebas in the hills, in which arms, bows and arrows, baseball bats and sharp weapons were recovered.

Several vehicles and public property were set ablaze and the security personnel were attacked by stone palters.
